Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bōń (neck); cognate with Azerbaijani boyun, Bashkir муйын (muyın), Chuvash мăй (măj), Kazakh мойын (moiyn), Kyrgyz моюн (moyun), Turkmen boýun, Uyghur بويۇن (boyun) and Uzbek bo'yin.
