From Arabic زَعْتَر (zaʕtar), صَعْتَر (ṣaʕtar, wild thyme; condiment made from this herb), probably from Classical Syriac ܨܬܪܐ (ṣāṯrā), related to Hebrew צַתְרָה (ṣátrā).
