Etymology[edit]
Equivalent to xālli (“sand”) + xocotl (“fruit”). Cf. Central Nahuatl chalxocotl, Central Huasteca Nahuatl chalchokotl, Mecayapan Nahuatl xa̱lxocoꞌ, Northern Puebla Nahuatl xalxocotl, Michoacán Nahuatl xalxocul, Tetelcingo Nahuatl xoxocotl, Zacatlán-Ahuacatlán-Tepetzintla Nahuatl xalxocotl.
