Etymology[edit]
A calque of the Welsh berfenw: berf → verb + enw → noun.
Noun[edit]
verbnoun (plural verbnouns)
- (Welsh grammar) A verb form which acts as a defective noun, having functions similar to the English infinitive and gerund, and the Latin supine.
Usage notes[edit]
- In dictionaries (such as Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru) that lemmatize the first-person singular present active indicative forms of verbs, the verbnoun is given as the second principal part.
