Etymology[edit]
Most likely a loanword.
Its source is unclear; compare Middle Chinese 侹 (MC thengH) "long, level, straight (obsolete)" > Sino-Vietnamese thính.
The native Vietic word for "straight" is ngay, which also has Khmuic cognates.
