From Arabic تَرْجِيح (tarjīḥ); and Ottoman Turkish ایتمك, ultimately from Proto-Turkic *ēt-.[1] Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰃𐱅 (et-, to make), Azerbaijani etmək, etc.
