Etymology 1[edit]
Borrowed from a Turkic language, probably before the times of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin (at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries).[1] Compare Old Turkic 𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰜 (t²ür²k̥ /türük/), Chuvash тӗрӗк (tĕrĕk).
