super- + string. In physics sense: Back-formation from superstring theory, which is a shorthand for supersymmetric string theory.

superstring (plural superstrings)
- (physics) a hypothetical object consisting of a very small one-dimensional string that vibrates in ten (or more) dimensions
- (computing) The string (sequence of text characters) that contains a substring.
- Given the superstring "cathode", we can extract the substrings "cat", "hod", and "ode".
