Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *skī́ˀstas, from Proto-Indo-European *skid- + *-tos. Cognate with Latvian šķîsts (“thin, pure”), Old Prussian skijstan (“pure”) (sg. acc.), Proto-Slavic *čistъ (“clean, pure”).
