From Old Danish skylæ, skyulæ, from Old Norse skýla, from Proto-Germanic *skeulijaną, cognate with Swedish skyla, Dutch schuilen. Derived from the noun *skeulą. In Danish, the verb has taken over the vocalism of the noun skjul.
