From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-sin. Cognate with Burmese သည်း (a.sany:, liver),Tibetan མཆིན་པ (mchin pa, liver), Nuosu (sip, liver), Naxi serl (liver), Japhug tɯ-mtshi (liver), Tangut 𗮰 (*sji², liver) and Jingpho masin (liver). Compare Lhao Vo sang: , Zaiwa sing, Longchuan Achang a³¹ ʂəŋ³¹ and Hpon ă ʃaìŋ.
