From Proto-Germanic *reudaną, cognate with Old English rēodan. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (red).

  1. to redden
    • 9th c., Þjóðólfr of Hvinir, Ynglingatal, verse 5:
