From Italian pistacchio, from Latin pistacium, from Ancient Greek πιστάκιον (pistákion), from πῐστᾰ́κη (pistákē, pistachio tree), ultimately of Iranian origin; compare Middle Persian pstk' (pistag). Additional cognates include Polish pistacja, French pistache, German Pistazie.
