outlane (plural outlanes)

  1. (pinball) One of the outer lanes toward the bottom of a pinball table that cause the ball to drain if not propelled back upwards.
    • 1997, Gary Flower, Bill Kurtz, Pinball: the lure of the silver ball:
      Hitting the top yellow button awards the points and increases the point values for the central rocket button targets and the side outlanes.
    • 1998, Walter Day, Twin Galaxies' official video game and pinball book of world records:
      Some newer games have a slot - instead of screw holes - which allows the post to be slid back and forth. You have to visually determine the mid-range position and then tighten the outlane post.
