Named after Canadian geologist with the Geological Survey of Canada, John Johnston O'Neill (1886–1966), +‎ -ite.

  1. (mineralogy) A trigonal-pyramidal yellowish brown mineral containing calcium, chlorine, hydrogen, iron, manganese, niobium, oxygen, silicon, sodium, and zirconium.
