White Hmong

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From nas (rodent) + an element of uncertain interpretation ncuav.

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “"Ncuav" by itself means "cake", "pock mark", and "slap, strike with hand's palm" - none of these seem especially related to squirrels. Or perhaps there's a folk legend about squirrels liking cake or being used as an ingredient in cake?”

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /na˩.ᶮɟuə̯˧˦/

nas ncuav (classifier: tus)
