Inherited from Proto-Philippine *ma-nuʀaŋ (“affinal relative”). By surface analysis, man- + *tugang. Compare Ilocano manugang, Botolan Sambal manoyang, Kapampangan manuyang, Cuyunon manugang, and Western Bukidnon Manobo enugang.
