Etymology

[edit]

Compare with Yoruba èrukùkù, Urhobo inékuku, Edo elikhukhu, Igbo kpalakwukwu, Ebira arekuku, Ifè àlúŋ̀kùkù, and Olukumi olékùkù. Possibly related to Ibibio ebomon-kuku, a widespread Niger-Congo root, Blench (2003) proposes a reconstruction to Proto-Niger-Congo *-kuku.
