From Proto-Celtic *lummo-, from Proto-Indo-European *lewp- (“to bend; to peel, tear, flake off, damage”), see also Lithuanian lùpti (“to peel”), Latvian lupt (“to peel; eat”), Proto-Slavic *lupiti (“to peel”). Cognate with Welsh llwm.
