From an infixed form of Proto-Mon-Khmer *kun ~ *kuun ~ *kuən (child). Cognate with Chut [Rục] kunɔːn¹, Juang kɔnɔn ("child, son, the young one; young"), Khmu [Cuang] krnɔːn ("uterus").
