Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طقسان (ṭoqsān /⁠toqsan⁠/) / طوقسان (ṭōqsān /⁠toqsan⁠/), from Common Turkic *toqquz-ōn (literally nine tens).

Compare also Azerbaijani doxsan, Kazakh тоқсан (toqsan), Kyrgyz токсон (tokson), Tuvan тозан (tozan), Yakut тоҕус уон (toğus uon), etc.
