Etymology[edit]
Kloekhorst connects it with Old Irish deug (“drink, draught, potion”), from Proto-Indo-European *deǵʰ- (“liquid, mixture”).[1] The zero-grade of this root is found in žuvìs (“fish”) < *dǵʰ-uH-.
