1. A long knotted whip with a wooden handle, formerly used as a punishment in the Congo and Portuguese Africa.
   • 1928 November 28, Daily Express:

     Corporal punishment, or ‘chicotte’, now exists only in the Congo army.

   • 1998, Adam Hochschild, King Leopold's Ghost, Pan, published 2012, page 120:

     Usually the chicotte was applied to the victim's bare buttocks.
