From Old Galician-Portuguese cambio, either directly from Late Latin cambium (change) or deverbal of cambiar (cf. Portuguese escambo), from Latin cambiāre (to change) , from a Celtic language, from Proto-Celtic *kamb- (crooked; bent), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱamb-, *(s)kamb- (bent).
