From Arabic جاوي (“Javan, of Southeast Asian origin”), a relative adjective (nisba) derived from جاوة (jāwa, “Java”) + ي (-i), from Javanese ꦗꦮꦶ (jawi), krama form of Javanese ꦗꦮ (jawa).
