From emneidiaf (to gesture, beckon, hint), from Proto-Brythonic *ėnmėtjɨd, from *an- (intensive prefix, from Proto-Celtic *ande- (intensive prefix; inside)) + Proto-Celtic *smatyeti (to beckon, nod, gesture), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)mh₂t-yé-ti, from *(s)meh₂- (to beckon, signal).
