Maltese

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Italian ammonire.

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /am.mɔˈnɪʃ.ʃa/
  • Audio (Gozo):(file)

Verb

[edit]

ammonixxa (imperfect jammonixxi, past participle ammonit, verbal noun ammonir)

  1. to admonish, to caution; to reprimand

Conjugation

[edit]
  • The traditional rule is that the syllable -ixx- is lost before stressed endings; that is in the past tense, before -x, and before a pronominal suffix. The contemporary tendency is to either keep -ixx- in all forms or avoid it in all forms (see ammona above).
