Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Latin adaugēre, present active infinitive of adaugeō, later turned to a first conjugation verb. The first conjugation form of the verb became preferred in Romanian (as in Aromanian adavgu, adãvgari), but other forms like adaoge using the third conjugation have also survived, though some are considered dated or archaic today.
