Borrowed from Italian tazza, itself borrowed from Arabic طَاس (ṭās, bowl, cup), borrowed from Middle Persian [script needed] (tšt' /⁠tašt⁠/, bowl), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *tetḱ- (to create; to cut).
