Etymology

[edit]

Can this be derived from "szivárog"? As the light comes through the raindrops... My dictionary says it comes from szív the verb, but does not give details. Qorilla 19:33, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Zaicz says the same, it's from szív, the verb. The same stem can be observed in szivárog. The origin of the meaning is the ancient folk belief that through the rainbow a mythological being pulls water from the earth. --Panda10 22:26, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
