Pronunciation

[edit]

The pronunciations added in diff, particularly the first British one, look odd. I don't see this word in any major dictionary that has pronunciation (not even Century) except the OED which (in their 1933 issue) has (kwǭ·ɹtări) where quart is (kwǭɹt); Thomas Edwards 1864 An English-Welsh Pronouncing Dictionary has it pronounced (cwar'-ta-rī), where the first syllable is the same as quart (cwart) and contrasted with quarter (cwor'-ter), and the ending is the same as secretary (sec'-ri-ta-rī), i.e. something like /kwɔɹ.tə.ɹi/. - -sche (discuss) 09:09, 9 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
