Mispronunciation note

[edit]

In Britain & Australia (& probably New Zealand) this is commonly mispronounced "Chut-spa" ('chut' as in 'chutney'). Would it be possible to add a note for non-phonetics readers to indicate how it should be pronounced? (something like "choot' spa", 'ch' as in 'loch', 'oo' as in 'foot')?--Tyranny Sue 09:44, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I’ve added enPR and SAMPA transliterations; I hope that helps.  (u):Raifʻhār (t):Doremítzwr﴿ 18:11, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Fantastic! Thanks very much! :) --Tyranny Sue 03:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Those begin with /h/ though, not the "cheese" consonant. I've never really heard it spoken. Equinox 19:42, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes. /χ/ is etymologically more accurate, but many English speakers cannot get anywhere near that. Not sure whether it should be in brackets instead, though. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 00:50, 6 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
