Split

[edit]

Maybe the heading Noun should be split: Noun (the member of a Christian church, countable) and Proper noun (the prophet, uncountable).

Deleted comment on reformed Egyptian, which is not pertinent to the definition of Mormon.

Mormonism is not a Christian Religion

[edit]

"A person who belongs to the Christian religious groups related to the religion founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." This definition seems inaccurate to me. Mormonism is not a Christian religion. Any true Christian person believe that Jesus Christ is God, and that there is only one god, and that the in the Bible they can find the word of God. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is not God, rather just a man, that anybody can become a god, and that the Bible is full of errors and is not reliable. I propose this modification: "A person who belongs to the pseudo-Christian religious groups related to the religion founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Or: "A person who belongs to religious groups related to the religion founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." 83.46.67.64 23:48, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Neither are Orthodoxy (Petrism), Catholicism (Papism), and Protestantism (Paulism). Jèsu never said he was the god (nor does "God" appear in the original Hellènic, only "ho theos" for "the god") but the son of man (as if the last man); rather Emmanuèl was the god, son of the gods logho and pneýma, who went into him that Kristians worship and believe. Abrahamism believes in many gods: https://www.quora.com/log/revision/22947773; https://www.quora.com/God-sent-Moses-God-sent-Jesus-God-sent-Mohammed-Still-many-dont-believe-What-do-you-think-God-will-try-next/answer/Autymn-Castleton. Their creation verses blatantly state the plural. j·hveh, logho's equivalent, had to send other gods to Sodom to learn something he didn't know. Lysdexia (talk) 08:39, 18 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sub-groups

[edit]

The current noun entry is misleading because there are Mormon denominations outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Dsy Saints who are Mormons, i.e. Community of Christ, Church of Christ, Apostolic United Brethren, Independant LDS, Remnant Church of LDS, Bockertonite, etc. I propose changing it to "Latter Day Saints movement". If that degree of precision is truly important, why not just amend the existing definition to say ", primarily The Church of..."? The vast majority of Mormons belong to that group. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:18, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mormon now frowned upon

[edit]

The current President of the biggest LDS group, Russell M. Nelson has tried to remove the term from official usage and discourage members from using it. In the near future, it is most likely to be used as a nickname by outsiders.-81.146.20.14 17:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Etymology?

[edit]

mormons are just named after several things: the believers themselves, the eponymous book, the eponymous prophet, and the eponymous water. Makes sense and that's it? Why? I think the origin of mormon remains a mystery, right? Correct me if i am wrong. 2404:8000:1027:85F6:CFD:22B2:5BE0:136F 23:57, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Word origin

[edit]

In the first, why the opening word is just talking believers not just the mormon as a word itself? 125.164.20.28 19:29, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
