a forest of hands[edit]

лес рук - a forest of hands (in school if nobody wants to answer teacher’s question)

Surely this should be "if everybody wants to answer the teacher's question"? Demonic Duck 18:10, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Right. —Stephen (Talk) 18:17, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's counterintuitive, he-he. Teachers use "лес рук" sarcastically when no student wants/is able to answer teachers' questions. E.g. Кто может ответить? Лес рук! Perhaps one may use the expression in a positive sense, meaning there are really many keen students raising their hands (to answer) but that wasn't my experience at school. --Anatoli 21:52, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, of course. Now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense. —Stephen (Talk) 21:57, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
