Etymology[edit]
From Middle Low German schêper, from schâp + -er, from Old Saxon skāp.
The form Schaiper retains the inherited umlaut result. In the variant Schäöper, it has been replaced with analogical umlaut after the underlying Schaop (“sheep”).
