Proto-Uralic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

The form *wäjä- is also possible according to Ante Aikio (2016), meaning a regular shift of *ä-ä to *a-i would have happened in Pre-Proto-Finnic (see *koi), making Proto-Samic *veajētēk a descendant and the Hungarian verb unrelated.

Verb

[edit]

*woje-

  1. can, to be able

Descendants

[edit]
  • Ugric:
    • Hungarian: vív (to fight; to besiege; to fence)
  • Proto-Finnic: *voidak (see there for further descendants)
