ka (the) + wena (glow). Made famous by Mary Kawena Pukui, whose name was shortened from Kawenaʻulaokalaniahiʻiakaikapoliopelekawahineʻaihonua "The rosy glow of the sky of Hiʻiaka in the bosom of Pele, the earth-eating woman."
