Etymology[edit]
Unknown. Possibly related to Welsh din (“fort, stronghold”), or to Dane.
Proper noun[edit]
- An area in Gloucestershire, between the rivers Severn and Wye, with a long history of mining.
- A local government district in Gloucestershire bordering onto Wales, formed in 1974 and with its headquarters in Coleford.
