Unknown. Maybe from archaic *Deda (cf. Albanian Dedë, Dodë; Gheg Albanian Ded, Dod), related to modern tëtanë, but bearing the meaning 'person'.

Name of a giant and mighty figure in Albanian mythology[1] (similar to Gigantes, Titans in Greek mythology). See Albanian Dodë for more.
