  1. As far as I know particles are a specific subset of postpositions. The difference seems to be the fact that particles can have a case or some other special functions while something that is just a postposition doesn't seem to. While I am not really clear on this myself, I do want to mention that I do not think and 이며 should be in this category, because they are more related to verb/adjective inflection than particles which only attach to noun or noun-like things.
