Borrowed from Kannada ಬಾದಾಮಿ (bādāmi), from Old Kannada ವಾತಾಪಿ (vātāpi), from Sanskrit वातापि (vātāpi, friend of the wind), from वात (vāta, wind) and आपि (āpi, friend).
