Borrowed from Latin -ēscere, present active infinitive of -ēscō. Was probably adopted before Progreso, probably through Idiom Neutral -eskar.

Usage notes

In early Ido (until the late 1910s) this suffix was used after verbal roots to form a verb with exclusively an inchoative active meaning.
