Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ïgač (“tree”). Cognate with Chuvash йывӑҫ (jyvăś, “tree”), Uzbek yogʻoch (“tree”), Turkish ağaç (“tree”), Bashkir ағас (ağas, “tree; wood, timber”).
