From 𐌲𐌰- (ga-) +‎ πƒπŒΉπŒ²πŒ΅πŒ°πŒ½ (sigqan, β€œto sink, to set”). For the sense of "to be swallowed", compare Danish synke (β€œto sink, to swallow”).

This lemma is only attested with the radical consonant cluster 𐌲𐌲𐌡 for the more usual 𐌲𐌡 (which appears i.a. in its derivational base πƒπŒΉπŒ²πŒ΅πŒ°πŒ½ (sigqan)); these clusters are pronounced identically.
