Etymology[edit]

Sino-Korean word from 磨斧作針, from 磨斧 (sharpening an axe) + 作針 (make a needle). Compare Chinese 磨杵作針磨杵作针 or 磨杵成針磨杵成针 and the proverb 只要功夫深,鐵杵磨成針只要功夫深,铁杵磨成针 (zhǐyào gōngfu shēn, tiěchǔ mó chéng zhēn)
