Etymology[edit]
Literally "false mullet." From 가(假) (ga, “false”) + 숭어 (sung'eo, “striped mullet”).

- Phonetic hangul: [가(ː)숭어]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
