Etymology[edit]
Possibly from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *baːr (“bloom, flower”); compare Burmese ပန်း (pan:) or Zaiwa pan²¹. Probably the same etymon as 瓣 (OC *breːns, “petal”) (Schusessler, 2007).
