Compound of (kami, hair on the head) +‎ 剃り (sori, shaving facial hair or body hair; a shaver, the (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb () (soru, to shave facial hair or body hair).). First cited in the ten-volume Wamyō Ruijushō of 934 CE.[1]

The kanji are from Chinese 剃刀 (tìdāo).
