Etymology[edit]

From 人 (hito, “person”) +‎ 擬き (modoki, “imitation”, the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 擬(もど)く (modoku, “to imitate, to copy”).).
