Noun

[edit]

ไม้เอก (mái-èek)

  1. (linguistics) "mai ek", Thai first tone marker, low tone marker ◌่

Usage notes

[edit]
  • In modern Thai syllables with low class initial consonant and mai ek become falling, mid class and high class - low. E.g. อ่าน (àan), is a mid class consonant (silent), so mai ek makes the syllable pronounced with the low tone (indicated by the grave accent in the transliteration).
